Mutual Valuations between Agents and Their Coalitions

چکیده
In Multi-Agent Systems (MAS), agents are acting individually and/or in cooperation with other agents in order to fulfill goals set by the initiators of them and thereby maximize some expected utilities. We argue that all form of cooperation is based on an expected raise of some present or future utility and that it should be modelled from a value-perspective. That is, there is no reason for an agent to cooperate if there is no (present or future) gain in doing so. As well as a coalition has a certain value for an agent, the agent is worth something for the coalition as well. Also there is typically a cost for being member of a coalition (e.g. acting according to the norms of the group). Comparing these two measures provide a guideline for future actions/norms aimed at reducing the differences. We conclude that in order to achieve a higher degree of cooperation in coalitions, agents will expose themselves to exploiters but that exploiters themselves will probably not be able to create and support coalitions.

Computing Stable Coalitions: Approximation Algorithms for Reward Sharing
Consider a setting where selfish agents are to be assigned to coalitions or projects from a set P. Each project k ∈ P is characterized by a valuation function; vk(S) is the value generated by a set S of agents working on project k. We study the following classic problem in this setting: “how should the agents divide the value that they collectively create?”. One traditional approach in cooperat...

متن کاملFormalizing Commitment-Based Deals in Boolean Games
Boolean games (BGs) are a strategic framework in which agents’ goals are described using propositional logic. Despite the popularity of BGs, the problem of how agents can coordinate with others to (at least partially) achieve their goals has hardly received any attention. However, negotiation protocols that have been developed outside the setting of BGs can be adopted for this purpose, provided...
متن کاملPlanning Requirements for Hierarchical Coalitions in Disaster Relief Domains
Coalitions are organisations whose members combine abilities and knowledge to carry out mutual purposes. Rather than to be composed by a team of equals, coalitions generally require a hierarchical structure of command and control where agents take different and complementary kinds of decisions at each level. This paper presents the development of a hierarchical coalition support system, conside...
